Now or Never for both Hendricks and Gonzaga

Originally posted on MMArated.com

This Saturday, Gonzaga will entertain newcomer Josh Hendricks in a fight that has somehow slipped onto the main card of UFC 91. It could turn into a chance for Gonzaga to establish himself as a fighter yet to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division, or the opportunity of a lifetime for the unheralded Hendricks.

The former All-American wrestler at Ashland University is coming off a year of inactivity, but has most recently been in Las Vegas helping Couture train for his main event fight against Brock Lesnar. That could be bad news for Gonzaga, since “The Natural” thoroughly handled the hulking BJJ fighter in August of last year. Hendricks, meanwhile, has not lost since 2005 and has run off a string of 10 straight victories – interrupted only by one no contest against heavyweight prospect Chris Tuchscherer.

At 32 years old, it’s now or never for Hendricks. For Gonzaga, this fight also likely represents his last chance to get back into the title picture, especially considering how quickly the UFC acted to jettison Werdum after his recent loss to Junior dos Santos.
