Strikeforce secures multi-year Showtime broadcast contract

Just hours after announcing the acquisition of several of the more desirable assets remaining from the financially strapped ProElite organization, the California-based Strikeforce promotion has announced a new broadcast contract with premium cable channel Showtime.

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker and Showtime Senior Vice President Ken Hershman today announced the deal via press release.

While financial terms of the deal were not released, the multi-year agreement calls for Showtime to produce and televise up to 16 live events per year.

"We are very excited to have the opportunity to deliver live Strikeforce events on the Showtime premium television platform," Coker stated.

The first Showtime broadcast for Strikeforce under the new deal will be for an April 11 card at the HP Pavilion. As previously reported by (, former EliteXC fighters Benji Radach and Scott Smith have already verbally agreed to a bout for that event.
