Benji Radach Exclusive Interview

Originally posted on themmafiend.com

Benji Radach (19-4, 1 NC) has fought and beaten some of the best fighters in the world. After a successful stint in the IFL that saw the him go 5-1, Radach signed with EliteXC. In his debut for the promotion he defeated Murilo “Ninja” Rua in devastating fashion in what was a back-and-forth war. EXC went belly-up, but Strikeforce bought out their assets, which included Benji’s contract. This weekend the promotion looks to put on their first show since the buyout, and Radach is one of a number of high profile fighters on the card to be headlined by a main event between Nick Diaz and Frank Shamrock.

We had a chance to catch up with Benji Radach this past week and talk about his upcoming fight with Scott Smith, his thoughts on Frank Shamrock vs Nick Diaz, his most recent win over Ninja Rua, who he thinks will leave the UFC Middleweight Champion after UFC 97, a possible fight with Robbie Lawler down the road, the now infamous incident where he thwarted an armed robbery in progress, and much more.

The MMA Fiend: How is training going for your upcoming fight with Scott Smith?

Benji Radach: Training is going pretty good. I’ve been bouncing around different places. I trained with Bas Rutten last week - been training with Team Quest, Mo Lawal, and Mayhem Miller quite a bit, so I think I’ll be ready to go.

So you’re going all over the place, huh.

Yeah, I’m kind of a transient as far as fighting goes .

Well that’s good, I mean, that way you don’t get too comfortable. It seems like if you don’t change things up you kind of get stuck in the same old habits.

Yeah, it’s very true. And also, you get used to certain pad work, or you get used to the workouts. And if you are always changing different workouts and different people, you’re not getting used to one set way.
