Radach Shatters Hand, But Pulls No Punches

Many pundits thought that heading into last weekend’s Strikeforce event that the match-up between Benji “Razor” Radach and Scott Smith had the potential to be an exciting fight. What they got ended up being labeled by many the show’s Fight of the Night with its high-paced action and dramatic come-from-behind TKO victory by Smith.

For Radach however, the fight was a double-fold loss, not only on paper, also physically, as he suffered a shattered hand early in the fight that required surgery that will sideline him for the immediate future.

Speaking to MMAWeekly.com from his home in Los Angeles, Radach spoke about the fight, his upcoming recovery, and why he feels he deserves a rematch.

MMAWeekly: Firstly, can you give us an update on the status of your hand?

Benji Radach: Basically, you have your pointer finger bone in your hand, and it goes back through your hand and then right behind your hand bone you have this square bone; sometimes your hand bone will go up over it or underneath it. Mine was dead center (when I punched Scott) and it so it just exploded the bone behind it and also broke the hand bone, so I pretty much shattered my hand.

I went in and had surgery on Monday. The doctor put a metal plate in, four screws, and pieced back together the square bone behind the hand bone and put four screws in that. It’s healing up right now and hopefully I’ll be back to action here shortly.

MMAWeekly: Did they give you a prognosis for recovery?

Benji Radach: They said six to 12 weeks, depending on how it goes. I’m just going to take my time on it. I’ll just jump rope and do the little things as soon as I possibly can. I can’t punch anything for a while, probably for a good eight weeks at least.
