Joe Riggs Wants Jake Shields
Originally posted on Fightline.com
Jake Shields has impressed many during his ascent up the world rankings, however Joe Riggs is certainly not one of them. He claims the former EliteXC welterweight champ declined an offer to fight him because Riggs is below him.
“I wouldn’t be starting this stuff, but as a professional fighter, you get offered to fight someone, you fight them regardless,” said an irritated Riggs. “Unless you have a legitimate reason you don’t want to fight them. Then [Shields] is going to say that I’m beneath him? [Expletive] that mother[expletive].”
Riggs states that StrikeForce initially intended to have the two meet on June 6th, however Shields demanded a more formidable opponent. The organization then opted to have Shields headline the event against former EliteXC middleweight champ Robbie Lawler in a catch-weight bout at 182 pounds.
